A Call to Creative Expression

Below are submissions from my Call to Creative Expression – Transversity Project.

My goal is for this collective to empower trans individuals to share aspects of themselves and their daily lives, both related to gender identity and also who they simply are as human beings. The mundane alongside the challenging. It is more important than ever to do this nowadays (especially in our current political climate), where misinformation and media sensationalization run rampant. We’re simultaneously ultra-connected to the world around us and also at great risk of falling into algorithm rabbit holes, popular stereotypes, and narratives that we do not control about entire groups of underrepresented people.

Through this collective, we wish to promote understanding and empathy, and specifically to combat the dehumanization of trans people. Outside of news articles and blogs, perceived threats, and executive orders, who really are the human beings who make up this population?

Response to Prompt 1:

What is one thing you wish others could know or understand about you, either as an individual or part of a collective community?

Response to Prompt 1:

What is one thing you wish others could know or understand about you, either as an individual or part of a collective community?

Current Prompts:

  • 1. What is one thing you wish others could know or understand about you, either as an individual or part of a collective community?

  • 2. What moves you? Could be anything that evokes an emotional response: sorrow, anger, excitement, nostalgia, longing…

  • 3. Is there something in the world, throughout history, or in your own story that you consider “unfinished”? Think of a past event  – a choice someone made, a particular film or book, memories, any instance of untapped potential – how would you continue the narrative, or would you do it over again?

  • 4. What would the average day look like for you? Imagine a rough schedule, the places you’d be, the people you’d spend your time with…

  • 5. What is something you’ve been told that has stuck with you to this day, for better or worse?

  • 6. Tell us about your name. If you picked it yourself, why? What significance does it hold?

  • 7. What does your gender or trans identity mean to you?

  • 8. What is a work of art or piece of media that has greatly impacted you on a personal level? Would you recommend it, and why?
